War Art
In 1916, Sir Max Aitken established the Canadian War memorials Fund. The Fund commissioned professional artists to paint scenes of the Great War. Eventually about 1000 works were produced. Not all of the art from the Great War was painted by professional artists. Many soldiers took the time to depict the war they experienced. The Canadian was Museum holds a collection of more than 13,000 paintings, drawings and sculptures. Visitors to this site are encouraged to visit the Canadian War Museum website to view the on-line collection.
